Lip Blush

How to prepare

To help prevent excessive bleeding, please refrain from consuming pain relievers/killers, coffee, tea’s, anything with caffeine, and or alcohol a minimum of 24 hrs prior to your procedure (blood thinners and fish oil 2 wks). Bleeding will cause poor retention and or bruising. Those on Accutane or other strong retinoids should wait after 6 months.  Do not apply glycolic acid, chemical peels, retinoids, exfoliators, or any products that cause sensitivity to your skin 14 days prior to your appointment. If prone to Coldsores, please get a antiviral prescription from your doctor (ex. Zovirax, Famvir, Valtrex, etc…) you can also include taking an over the counter vitamin such as Lysine 10 days before & after your procedure.

Aftercare

Immediately after:

The area will feel a bit sore and will look quite intense. There could be some swelling and minor bruising which should only last up to 2 days. Lips may also be tender and swollen after the procedure. Ice can be applied to help reduce bruising, swelling, and tenderness. Do not place ice directly on your lips, instead wrap an ice pack or a sealed bag of ice in a napkin and place it on the area for no longer than 20 minutes at a time.

The day of treatment

  • Wipe your tattoo every hour with a wet cotton round and pat the area dry to ensure no fluid sits and forms scabs.
  • After patting the area dry, re-apply the ointment given.

Fluid will leak from the tattoo to form scabs. These fluids should not be allowed to sit on your tattoo and form scabs. When you wipe, you will see the color coming off onto the cotton round, this is normal.

Day 2-5

  • Do not touch your tattoo with dirty fingers, remember it is an open and healing wound. An infection could possibly ruin the tattoo.
  • Don’t get your tattoo too wet for too long. It will make the scabs soggy and easier to fall off prematurely. Remember, you want to keep the scabs on for as long as you can, let them fall off naturally.
  • Moisturize as often as possible with the recommended or provided ointment.
  • Do not sleep on your face to avoid lifting your scabs prematurely and make sure you are sleeping on a clean pillowcase to avoid infections.
  • Avoid harsh cleansers, creams, make up, or any other products on the treated area until all scabs have naturally fallen off. These things can jeopardize the healing of the tattoo.
  • Don’t pick, scratch, or bite off the scabs. Let the  scabs fall off naturally. Picking cost scarring, loss of pigment, or an infection.
  • Do not expose your tattoo to UV rays or tanning beds for four weeks after the procedure. These things can alter the appearance of your tattoo dramatically.
  • Do not sweat on the tattoo until all scabs have come off naturally. Sweat can take the pigment from your tattoo. If you sweat on them, dab it off immediately.
  • Do not get any facials, Botox, chemical Treatments, and microdermabrasion for four weeks post appointment date.
  • Do not eat anything too spicy or with too much citrus. Be careful when eating not to rub any scabs off and try to drink through a straw.

After scabbing phase:

Once the scabs have completely fallen off, you may apply makeup over the area and return back to your normal routine.

Please note the following:

  • After the scabs come off your tattoo may have a milky/gray hue to it. This is normal and means the surface skin has healed but the underneath layer is still healing. The complete healing process takes six weeks.
  • Six weeks is also when the true and final color of the tattoo will show and that is the time when a touch-up can be      done.
  • Your tattoo will be softer and not as crisp once fully healed.
  • Results will vary with each individual and are extremely dependent on your skin and how you care for it during healing. It may take more than one session to achieve your desired results.

Once fully healed:

It is strongly recommended that you do not use any of the following on your tattoo:

• Benzoyl peroxide • Hydrogen peroxide • Glycolic acid

• Apple cider vinegar • Vitamin E or C • Retinal

These products can lighten or fade your tattoo faster. We also recommend wearing sunscreen as the UV rays will deteriorate the pigment and lighten or fade the tattoo faster as well. Salt water and chlorine can also deteriorate the pigment faster as well. Rinse with water after contact.

If you are having any laser or facial beauty treatments please inform your technician before the procedure that you have a permanent makeup tattoo.

This treatment does fade after 1 to 3 years depending on your skin and lifestyle. Touch-ups are necessary to maintain the longevity and overall beauty of your tattoo. If you have oily skin, iron deficiency, or a very strong immune system it is very likely that your lip blush will not heal as crisp or last as long.

Please note: Lips will appear 20% to 40% darker and bolder due to natural scabbing and healing for the first 7 days. This is quite common for all permanent cosmetic procedures. After the scabbing phase the lips may then appear lighter due to skin healing itself, this is called the translucent skin phase. During this phase it will appear as if your lips are fading. The true pigment color will come through within four weeks post procedure. Any missing or patchy areas will be corrected during your touchup. Healing will depend on your aftercare, medications, skin, and activity level.
